We can improve our homes’ energy efficiency and save money on our power bills by being aware of our power usage and by making our homes as energy efficient.  With a little effort, it’s possible to save as much as 60% on our power bills every month.

Starting June 1st through September 30th, Nevada Energy’s Summer Peak rates increase dramatically. This daily rate increase is between 1pm and 7pm, when it is the hottest and the demand for power is the greatest.

The amount we pay for power during summer afternoons is called Peak Demand Time.
Summer Off-Peak cost for single family homes is 8.4 cents per kWh and Peak Demand is
23.9 cents per kWh.  Consuming energy during Peak Demand Time is costing us triple!

How do we combat these higher power bills?
Using our Peak Demand power costs wisely and knowing where to best utilize energy improvement products is key to energy savings.  Becoming energy efficient while still maintaining a comfort level in your home without sacrifice and reducing power consumption, energy costs, and carbon footprint is possible and easy!  For example, appliances such as dishwashers, pool pumps and the like should used during Off-Peak times.

Nevada Energy is seeking another rate increase for this year, and a decision will be issued by the Public Utilities Commissioners on June 24.  According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, single-family homes would see a boost of 16.7 percent, or $24 a month on the average bill. You can learn more by visiting the NV Energy website and looking up Docket # 08-12002 under Recent Regulatory Filings.

Our energy costs are increasing each and every year.  We must take it upon ourselves to be aware and take advantage of the many cost saving improvement options and tax credit available.
